“You Can Be A Winner At The Game Of Life”

“You Can Be A Winner At The Game Of Life”

Oct 8, 2010

Ahh, “The Game Of Life.” I’m sure many of you remember this classic Milton Bradley game where you spin a wheel, choose whether or not to go to college, pick a career, get married, buy a house, have some kids, and retire (if only it were that simple).

Those iconic blue and pink pegs will be driving their station wagons into the Android Market very soon, compliments of EA. There isn’t too much information yet but we have a few screenshots from the EA site. I believe it is set to be released sometime in the month of October but this has yet to be confirmed.

Droid 2 Global Specs “Almost” Available

Droid 2 Global Specs “Almost” Available

Oct 7, 2010

If you head over to Motorola you can now see the official specs of the Droid 2 Global. The Droid 2 Global specs have been speculated about for some time now, especially the rumor about it having a 1.2 Ghz processor. This make the Droid 2 Global processor the fastest stock running processor in the Droid series.

This is great news for global travelers who have been itching to use the Droid for international business (or play). With service in over 200 countries this is a must have for international Droid users (not to mention bragging the 1.2Ghz bragging rights).

Tango Video Calling For Android

Tango Video Calling For Android

Oct 6, 2010

The barren desert of free video calling apps for Android just gained a drop of water called Tango. Tango is a free mobile video calling service available for both the iPhone and Android. iPhone people will ask “Why would we need this when we have FaceTime?” Well, because FaceTime only allows video calling between supported Apple devices and can only be used over WI-FI. Tango not only works over WiFi, 3G and 4G, but cross platform, as well.

Tango offers high-quality video calling for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, and Android devices including Motorola Droid X, HTC EVO, HTC Incredible, and Google Nexus One. Tango can be used with a front facing camera or with just a rear camera. Being able to be used with rear facing camera phones opens the list of compatible devices to 30 models, including ones from Acer, Apple, HTC, LG, Motorola, Pantech and Samsung.

Tango is simple to set up and uses your phone number as your ID so there is no need to setup yet another profile. Tango also reads your contact list and will add anyone from your contacts who use the service to your Tango contacts or you can easily invite friends with one click e-mail or text.

Video calling provides a more personal and fun way to communicate with your friends and family.
We can’t always be around a computer so it’s nice to know you can take this technology with you thanks to services like Tango. You can read the Press Release for more info or visit the Tango website. The Tango app is available and can be downloaded from the Android Market for free.

SamDroidJackson – A Mother*&@$%* App For Your Mother*&@$%* Phone

SamDroidJackson – A Mother*&@$%* App For Your Mother*&@$%* Phone

Oct 6, 2010

The guys over at Heatwave Interactive have finally managed to port over their Mother*&@#$%* iSamJackson app to our beloved Android Market. This beacon of benevolence is available in either an explicit version or the “wash your mouth out with soap” clean version. If you are a fan of actor Samuel L. Jackson then you will undoubtedly enjoy this soundboard app.

SamDroidJackson is a customizable soundboard app consisting of original Sam Jackson quotes and a variety of other features. You can have one touch access to sh*t you wish you could say. This potty mouth app will have your momma running to Costco to buy bars of soap in bulk. It’s funny, quirky, and sometimes downright righteous.

Here’s what Anthony Castoro, CEO of Heatwave Interactive had to say about SamDroidJackson.

“iSamJackson is the definitive entertainment app for the iPhone and iPod touch, and SamDroidJackson offers Android owners a chance to be as bad ass as their Apple-loving counterparts,” “We’re really excited to not only be bringing all of the app’s great features to the Droid platform, but also to offer users the ability to use Sam’s signature attitude as their ringtone.”

What else do you need to know? Head over to the Android Market to get yourself some Sam.

Untangle Space Out Review

Untangle Space Out Review

Oct 6, 2010

Apostek recently announced the release of Untangle Space Out, their newest puzzle game for Android devices. This space-age themed puzzle game features various orbs which are intertwined by neon laser beams. The object is to untangle these beams by repositioning the various orbs. This game reminds me of something that might be played at Deep Space 9′s Quark’s Bar.

Untangled Space Out has been released in both the Free version (which consists of 5 levels) or the Pro version, which costs $1.99 and features 50 games spread over 10 levels. I’m not sure if the free version has any ads in it since I was using the Pro version.

Google Acquires BlindType, Brings Whole New Era Of “Did You Mean?”

Google Acquires BlindType, Brings Whole New Era Of “Did You Mean?”

Oct 4, 2010

Time to put typing mistakes on the endangered species list. Since its inception, Google has been on a mission to eradicate typing mistakes. First it was the condescending “Did you mean?” response to our typos. Then they got tired of waiting for us to make a mistake and said “Hey why don’t we just show them what they mean to type before they even type it (Google Instant).” What’s next? Acquiring a company who has developed a technology which will predict and correct your typing mistakes without you even touching the actual keypad! That’s right ladies and gentlemen, SOS has just gone futuristic. Just start tapping away and BlindType will take care of everything.

Google’s Car Home App Drives to The Market to Get an Update

Google’s Car Home App Drives to The Market to Get an Update

Oct 4, 2010

This just in, “Google’s Car Home App rents studio with recently emancipated Gmail App: wild driving and uncontrollable emails ensue.”

Looks like another of Google’s Apps has left in pursuit of update happiness. The last app cub to leave the den was Google’s Gmail App bringing with it much needed updates. Following suit is Google’s Car Home App (you know, the steering wheel that gives you those gigantic square shortcuts) and it comes bearing gifts of customization.

In this updated version of Car Home you will notice a new feature entitled “Add shortcut.” As the name implies you can simply click on the icon and add whatever new shortcut allowed. You can also remove or re-position any of your shortcut icons with the ol’ long press-drag/drop function.

If that’s not enough customization for you then go ahead and press the “Settings” icon for a new list of options including the ability to set the Car Home wallpaper and icon color scheme. Before the update you could launch “Car Home” by opening the app directly from your phone or docking your phone in a car dock. Now with this new version you have the option to have “Car Home” launch automatically when your phone pairs with any Bluetooth device (look ma, no hands!).

Google has also added a “Car applications” category which will house all Car Mode compatible applications for easier discovery and access. The new version of Car Home is available in the Android Market for devices running Android 2.2 (I know, I know).

Announcement: The App Hall Of Fame from 148Apps

Announcement: The App Hall Of Fame from 148Apps

Oct 1, 2010

originally posted on 148apps.com
App discoverability continues to be a real issue.  With the fast churn of apps in the App Store, an app has only a few weeks of promotional life in it before it’s largely forgotten.  There are a few things developers can do to fix that, but those things may not work for most apps.  That’s why we think it’s important to archive these great, best apps from even just a few months ago.  They may have been forgotten by most, but we want a way to remember them forever.

We’re proud to announce the launch of a new site, dedicated to archiving the very best in mobile apps, the App Hall of Fame!  We hope it will become the source for finding the very best of the best apps, long after their initial promotional buzz has died down.

With a voting process loosely modeled after the Baseball Hall of Fame, the App Hall of Fame will induct 12 new apps every month. The eligible apps are those that have been in the App Store for at least 6 months.  Initially we’ll be focusing on iPhone/iPod Touch apps, but we’ll open it up to iPad apps soon.  Next year? We expand further to cover other platforms.

Spacetime Studios, creators of the popular iOS MMO game “Pocket Legends” is gearing up for some serious cross platform support. The rising popularity of MMO mobile games, specifically “Pocket Legends” has managed to catch the eyes of New York venture capital firm Insight Venture Partners. They announced they would be funding further development of Spacetime Studio’s technology platform along with new functionality and enhancements.

Armed with this new capital, Spacetime Studios is planning to bring “Pocket Legends” to the Android and PC markets in the very near future. CEO, Gary Gattishas stated that:

“Providing players, no matter where they are, with a single deep, seamless 3D MMO gaming experience on multiple devices has been a dream of ours since the company was founded.”

This pioneering venture will open the doors to unlimited possibilities.

“In the near future, it will be possible to be on the bus in California with your iPhone, playing with someone in a park in France on their Android device, and both be playing in the same server set with someone in South Korea on their PC.” said Anthony L. Sommers, co-founder and CTO of Spacetime Studios

Pretty darn awesome when you think about it. I predict there will be a booming trend coming in this mobile multiplayer gaming market and it turns out the guys at the forefront realize this too. Not only will they be enhancing their own MMO series but they plan on licensing the technology behind “Pocket Legends,” allowing other developers to create their own games. The mobile gaming industry seems to be traveling at light speed and I for one am tickled pink thinking about the possibilities in store for us.

If you haven’t yet heard of “Pocket Legends” I suggest you head over to the Spacetime Studios site and check out the videos and forums. You can also check out sister site The Portable Gamer’s review right here as well. With the immense popularity of previous MMO games such as “World Of Warcraft,” I feel that taking this genre into the mobile platform is the logical step to take.
