Have a Happy New Year!

Have a Happy New Year!

Dec 31, 2010

Thank you everyone and have a HAPPY NEW YEAR! A message from your friends at Android Rundown and the 148apps network.

It’s been a wild and crazy year for Android. Verizon made it the “Year of the Droid” while other carriers made it the “Year of the 4G/Not 4G” wars. We saw Nexus 1 (true dev phone) and then we saw Samsung fail with its successor (don’t call them #2!). We got Froyo (Samsung missed the memo) then Gingerbread and we were teased some Honeycomb. 2010 brought us more tablets than Pfizer and Steve Jobs called us “Fragmented.” Let’s not forget the year Angry Birds managed to bring global productivity to a halt!

Have You Tried Any of Gamevil’s 3 New Releases?

Have You Tried Any of Gamevil’s 3 New Releases?

Dec 30, 2010

Last week, premier mobile game publisher Gamevil released three new games into the Android Market. You may remember Gamevil from our Soccer Superstars review or any of their other hit games such as Baseball Superstars 2010 or Zenonia. Anime/RPG style gaming seems to permeate through Gamevil’s titles and it’s safe to say that it’s their forte. Gamevil titles are also very feature rich and run extremely smooth (In my experience). I have yet to try any of the new titles but wanted to make sure everyone was at least aware of their availability. Below you will find the titles, a brief description, and any necessary links. I know the holidays can be extremely busy times so if you missed it, here they are:

Swype Beta Still Open

Swype Beta Still Open

Dec 30, 2010

10 days ago Swype announced the re-opening of Swype Beta for the holidays. I was under the impression that this offer was only going to be open for a few days but I have been informed that it is still open to anyone who wishes to download it. They have stated that this is indeed a limited time deal but they haven’t quite decided on how “limited.” This is great news for anyone who has been trying to get their fingers on an “official” copy of Swype Beta or for those who are curious about Swype.

Scribbler Pro App Review

Scribbler Pro App Review

Dec 29, 2010

I am the proud father of a left handed 4 year old artist who loves to draw. She draws on paper, sidewalks, Fisher-Price Doodle Pro’s and anything else she can get her hands on. My Android phone is no exception, which means it is always stocked with drawing apps. Next on my list of drawing apps to review is Scribbler Pro by developer Rich Stern. Scribbler Pro is the paid version of Scribbler and costs $.99 in the Android Market. This feature rich touch drawing app for Android is great for artists of all ages and offers a variety of pick up and draw presets to get you started. I would now like to draw (pun intended) your attention to the Android Rundown of Scribbler Pro and then you can decide if this application is your box of crayons.

SoundHound Now Offers Free Unlimited Music Recognition

SoundHound Now Offers Free Unlimited Music Recognition

Dec 28, 2010

Watch out Shazam, SoundHound is making moves! SoundHound has removed the 5 music IDs per month cap from the free version of SoundHound and replaced it with unlimited music recognition. That’s right, UNLIMITED!

SoundHound is a music search and discovery application which uses Sound2Sound technology to provide users with the world’s fastest music recognition system and the world’s only viable singing and humming search. What does that all mean? That means you can play a song, hum a song or think about a song (just kidding about the last one) and SoundHound will recognize it, display a match, bookmarks, lyric downloads and much more. It’s a really good app for when you just have to know who sings a song or when you are having a hard time remembering the name of that song stuck in your head.

E*Trade Mobile Pro Joins a New Market – Android

E*Trade Mobile Pro Joins a New Market – Android

Dec 27, 2010

Buy! Sell! Buy! Sell! This next app is for all the Gordon Gekkos and cute baby E*Traders of the world (I love those commercials). The stock market is a volatile playground and staying on top of things isn’t always an easy task. Having a tool to help you stay connected and current while on the go can make all the difference and that is why the people over at E*Trade Financial created their E*Trade Mobile Pro application. I’m happy to let you know that this app is now available for Android and can be downloaded for free via the Android Market.

FaceFighter Gold Review

FaceFighter Gold Review

Dec 27, 2010

Joe the co-worker just won’t shut up about his grandiose life (even though you know his salary doesn’t permit such a fallacy) and you’re just daydreaming about giving him a fat lip (Which I’m totally not condoning). You know you could never do such a thing without having a tsunami of negative consequences ensue, not to mention the possibility that Joe may actually end up whipping up on you. How about that 16 year old Starbucks employee, or the guy that cut you off? Sure you could go grab your stress ball or maybe do some yoga exercises but the guys over at Appy Entertainment have a much cooler way of dealing with the blockheads in your life. Thanks to their funny first-person fighting game entitled FaceFighter Gold, we can all unleash our hidden fury onto the faces of our foes (or friends if you wish). Stay tuned for a face kicking Android Rundown.

Gameloft Ends the Year With 10 HD Games For Android

Gameloft Ends the Year With 10 HD Games For Android

Dec 24, 2010

Did I mention this has been an exciting week for Android Gamers? I’m going to have to start deleting some apps to make room for all these new games. Anyways, Gameloft has announced the release of 10 HD games for Android before the end of December. Gameloft, for anyone who doesn’t know, is a leading publisher and developer of some pretty kick-ass games. Their only pitfall seems to be their distribution methods, which are — the opposite of kick-ass! Despite their lack of support for the Android Market they continue to push out stellar games and this Holiday installment is no exception. I’ve already told you about 2 of the 10 games HERE so let’s go ahead and take a look at the other 8 games which are sure to have you second guessing that Gameloft strike you’ve got going.

Spaghetti Marshmallows Review

Spaghetti Marshmallows Review

Dec 24, 2010

Every time I see the name Spaghetti Marshmallows I think of Will Farrell’s character, Buddy, in the holiday movie Elf. You know, the part where he’s eating spaghetti with marshmallows and every other sweet delectable you could imagine, topped with syrup. While Spaghetti Marshmallows doesn’t sound in the least bit appetizing to eat, it does however make for an interesting game title. I just had to download this peculiar title by developer Fruxotic Games to see what exactly Spaghetti Marshmallows was. I soon found it to be a minimalistic physics-based tower building game that uses — you guessed it — spaghetti and marshmallows. Anyone who has played games like “World of Goo,” or “Tiki Towers,” will be familiar with how to play Spaghetti Marshmallows; everyone else stay tuned for an Android Rundown.
