Line2 Now Available For Android

Line2 Now Available For Android

Jan 20, 2011

Toktumi, Inc. (see what they did there) announced the release of their groundbreaking Line2 app for Android. Originally only available for iOS, this tri-mode VoIP/Cell calling app gives you a unique number in which you can use to make calls over Wi-Fi or 3G/4G cellular data networks using VoIP. I know what you’re thinking, “Google Voice does this for free.” Not really, Google Voice is not VoIP and still requires an existing phone line, whereas Line2 does not.

Wallpaper Wednesday — Original Flurry, Transformers, and more…

Who doesn’t love a good wallpaper? They’re one of the first things we customize on our mobile devices. Some people pick one and stick with it, others change them like they’re TV channels. Wallpapers are as unique as the individuals who use them. They represent our moods, thoughts, ideals, and just plain insanity. I mean if it weren’t for wallpapers, app markets wouldn’t have the ludicrous numbers they so proudly boast.

Time for the second installment of Wallpaper Wednesday. Last week I had some NFL playoff team wallpapers and I’m sad to report that my Patriots decided not to show up to the game and ultimately lost <-- insert sad face. Today's installment features a flurry, a flame, and more than meets the eye.

If you’re the proud owner of an Android device, chances are you also use many of Google’s “products.” For some unknown reason, Google seems to be on the slow side when it comes to integration and syncing of common products and features (look how long it took to get a subpar Google Reader app). Another vexing omission is the lack of bookmark syncing. My Google Chrome bookmarks make my life .00003% more productive and I love them for it! Yes, you could always manually re-bookmark each site within the Android browser, but if you have a long list of bookmarks, then it really — sucks.

Newegg Mobile App For Android

Newegg Mobile App For Android

Like all bargain shopper geeks, I regularly check Newegg for the latest deals. However, I had absolutely no idea they had an app (doh!). Apparently it’s been out for like a month and no one informed me until the recent update that got pushed out last week. I went ahead and downloaded “Newegg Mobile” from the Android Market and I have to say I’m impressed so far.

Simple Taxes, Simple Solution — TurboTax SnapTax

Simple Taxes, Simple Solution — TurboTax SnapTax

Jan 17, 2011

Tax season is upon us, which may or may not be a good thing. For some people, doing taxes involves stacks of encyclopedias, accountants, and an April 18th deadline. For others, a simple 1040-EZ does the trick. Throughout the years we have seen easier and more convenient ways of preparing and filing our taxes such as phone file, e-file, and tax preparation software like Turbo Tax. We now see these conveniences in the world of mobile with the advent of apps such as SnapTax.

(In my best old mans voice) “In my days, MTV stood for music television and played nothing but music videos!”

Those days are looong gone thanks to the wretched inception of “Reality TV” (I think I just threw up in my mouth). Thankfully we have technology and the internet to help fill the music video void left in our hearts. Now, thanks to sites like VEVO, getting your music video fix is just a few clicks away. VEVO can be accessed through a multitude of platforms and you can now include Android to that list thanks to their recently released VEVO app.

We here at Android Rundown appreciate the pivotal role these pixel palettes play in our mobile lives and have decided to dedicate every Wednesday to them. Cleverly named “Wallpaper Wednesday” will feature a small number of live wallpapers, and photos that users can download. Most photos will need to be resized to fit your particular device and live wallpapers only work with compatible devices. So — without further ado, I present you Wallpaper Wednesday!

Jet Car Stunts Lite Now Available

Jet Car Stunts Lite Now Available

Jan 10, 2011

A little over two weeks ago, developer True Axis brought their hugely popular iOS game Jet Car Stunts over to the Android platform. Despite positive reviews, Jet Car Stunts hasn’t received the download explosion one would expect from a hit iOS port. One of the biggest complaints and hindrances thus far has been the lack of a “Lite” version for users to try out before committing to a purchase. “Lite” or “Free” versions have become increasingly necessary on Android since the market refund policy was changed. Users are now much more hesitant to purchase an app that does not include some sort of trial version for fear of getting stuck with a lemon.

You Are Now Entering — The Tegra Zone

It’s undeniable, NVIDIA and their Tegra 2 mobile super chip absolutely dominated CES and this years lineup of devices. Powered by the world’s first mobile dual-core CPU, these devices promise to bring a whole new gaming experience to the mobile world. Think of Angry Birds as todays smartphone processing power and then Tegra 2 as “Exorbitantly Infuriated Raging Feathered Projectiles!”
