Android Dessert List Includes Honeycomb and Ice Cream

Oct 21, 2010

You know the saying “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach?” Apparently Google does, and every time I hear about a new Android release I seem to salivate. I’m not sure if it’s due to the thought of a new platform release or the delicious names they love to brand them with. Since Android 1.5 (Cupcake) Google has continued its tradition of naming its releases after desserts (in alphabetical order). Up next after Froyo is Gingerbread and then Honeycomb. Now this is already enough dessert to keep me satisfied but apparently someone didn’t get the memo and we now have a possible name for Android 4.0: “Ice Cream.”

Forbes has reported that ARM President Tudor Brown let the cat out of the bag by telling them that version 4.0 will be called “Ice Cream.” Considering Tudor Brown’s insider knowledge of Android and the fact that there aren’t many desserts that start with the letter “I”, I’d bet he’s correct. So what does this mean? It means another yet-to-be released update, it means another lawn ornament for Google, and it means I’m getting hungry. Hungry for some sweets and hungry for any new enhancements of an already “kick-ass” mobile operating system. This news is really nothing more than “Food for thought.”
