As Wi-Fi technology started to spread, the joke was that all our home appliances would start to connect to the internet. Well, quit joking, because home appliances are actually starting to get smart. Dacor in fact has announced a line of ovens that are powered by Android. Seriously. The Discovery 30“ Wall Oven features a Discovery IQ Controller that runs ICS wiht a 1 GHz processor, 512 MB of RAM, and Google Play access on a 7” touchscreen. While there’s going to be a user interface that’s designed to be easy to use, and will offer access to interactive recipe apps and cooking videos straight from the oven, we all know what the real use of this is going to be: playing games while cooking. Play Angry Birds while cooking chicken!
The oven will be available this summer starting at $4499. Of course, with home appliances running Android, it’s probably the rise of the machines, and the end of humanity as we know it. Plus, Arnold Schwarzenegger ain’t getting any younger.
