Nvidia Announces Tegra K1 Processor, with Console-Level Power?

Jan 8, 2014

Nvidia has announced an interesting new processor, the Tegra K1. The followup to the Tegra 4, which powers the Nvidia Shield, the K1 features 192 cores, and supports Unreal Engine 4. Tim Sweeney, head of Epic Games, says that “We can take absolutely anything that runs on PC or high-end consoles and run it on Tegra. … I didn’t think that we’d be at this level on mobile for another three to four years.” Nvidia is claiming console-level performance, and while that remains to be seen in real-world execution, there’s still some real promise here for the future of mobile gaming.
