Opera Mobile 10.1 Beta Available

Nov 15, 2010

Opera promised us a browser on November 9th and sure enough, it’s now in the Android Market. I feel so lucky as an Android user to have as many options as we do. This is not the same thing as Opera Mini for those wondering and there are some differences which may or may not suit your needs. So what exactly is Opera Mobile boasting and why should we give their browser a try? Let’s take a look at what they are highlighting as features:

  • Faster page loading than other browsers and a highly fluid panning, scrolling and smooth zooming experience.
  • Speed Dial – Quick and easy access to the user’s favorite websites while the password manager saves the user from cumbersome mobile-phone typing.
  • Opera Turbo – Provides up to 80 percent data compression.
  • Easy tab management with visual tabs.
  • Opera Presto rendering engine.
  • Sync your bookmarks across devices with Opera Link.
  • Ability to be set as the default browser.
  • Geolocation support.
  • SVG support.

We have to remember that Opera Mobile 10.1 is in Beta form so there will be issues and improvements. I still prefer the stock browser and see no real benefits other than offering another choice to Android users and the ability to link with your desktop Opera browser. So, give it a try and if it’s not for you then simply uninstall (the beauty of Android). Here’s some screenshots and a download link for those interested.
