Tax season is upon us, which may or may not be a good thing. For some people, doing taxes involves stacks of encyclopedias, accountants, and an April 18th deadline. For others, a simple 1040-EZ does the trick. Throughout the years we have seen easier and more convenient ways of preparing and filing our taxes such as phone file, e-file, and tax preparation software like Turbo Tax. We now see these conveniences in the world of mobile with the advent of apps such as SnapTax.
Snap Tax is an app brought to us by the makers of Turbo Tax and allows people who meet certain criteria to quickly and easily file their taxes using their Android devices. All you have to do is download the app, snap a picture of your W-2, answer a few questions and then watch as SnapTax magically calculates your refund. Review all information to make sure it is correct, then with the click of a button and a $14.99 filing fee, you’re done.
SnapTax can be used by most people who file using 1040-EZ. Check below to see if you meet these specifications before downloading SnapTax:
- Income of $80k or less ($100k if married)
- Income only from W-2s, interest, or unemployment
- No dependents
- No home or real estate ownership
If you meet those requirements then go ahead and download SnapTax for a fast and easy way of preparing and filing your taxes. SnapTax is available for free in the Android Market and the $14.99 filing fee is only required if you use SnapTax to file your taxes. This fee may increase after March 25th so make sure you file prior to that date to get the $14.99 price.
