Swype Beta Still Open

Swype Beta Still Open

Dec 30, 2010

10 days ago Swype announced the re-opening of Swype Beta for the holidays. I was under the impression that this offer was only going to be open for a few days but I have been informed that it is still open to anyone who wishes to download it. They have stated that this is indeed a limited time deal but they haven’t quite decided on how “limited.” This is great news for anyone who has been trying to get their fingers on an “official” copy of Swype Beta or for those who are curious about Swype.

Swype is a unique text-input method for touchscreens which allows users to enter words by swiping their finger in one continuous motion across the letters needed. The only time you need to lift your finger is when you are ready to start your next word. The Swype method is supposed to increase your text-input speed due to the fact that one does not need to be completely accurate. When I first saw Swype it looked a tad intimidating and I was extremely reluctant to give it a try. I finally broke down and decided to install Swype after I was given a Beta invitation. It is now my keyboard of choice and I can’t believe how much easier and more accurate it is vs. standard touch input.

Many new devices come pre-loaded with Swype but for those that do not, I highly recommend taking advantage of this offer and downloading the Swype Beta keyboard. If you are still on the fence about it, just remember you can always use Swype as you would your regular keyboard. Just because it supports swipe gestures doesn’t mean you have to use them. You can still use the familiar touch-tap input until you get the hang of swiping. I didn’t find it hard at all to adapt to and it was one of the best decision I have made when it comes to applications I have downloaded.

There are two versions available to download and the only difference is in language support. The larger version (10MB) supports multiple languages, while the slim version (2.5MB) supports English and Spanish only. Below I will provide you with the links to follow in order to download Swype Beta. From there just read the instructions and FAQ and you should be good to go. Enjoy and get it while you can!
