Google Drive Makes it Easier to Find Files

Google Drive Makes it Easier to Find Files

Dec 9, 2015

Google Drive is making it easier for folks to manage and manipulate files with its latest update that is live on Google Play as of right now.

Per the Google Drive Blog post (by Group Product Manager Steen Andersson) detailing the changes, Drive now allows one to search across all files regardless of source. One can narrow one’s search to a file type using the Android search box and open advanced search from the search box.

There are also some tweaks meant to improve search results. More specifically, it is possible to query files by owner using name and/or email, and also to search with advanced means like modified date, terms therein or the people a file was shared with.

All in all, the new features sound exceptionally useful for all type of storage users, and definitely are of a premium to people who partake in collaborative projects.

The versions for iOS and the web are also getting updated.

Google Drive remains free on the Play Store.

Facebook 360 Video Comes to Android

Facebook 360 Video Comes to Android

Sep 23, 2015

Facebook is introducing 360-degree video to mobile newsfeeds on Android.

Excerpts from the press release:

Starting today, 360-degree videos will begin rolling out in News Feed.

Our goal at Facebook is to connect you with the people and things that matter, every single day. Over time, we’ve seen that people enjoy more immersive content in their News Feeds. This is one reason video has been so successful on Facebook, and we’re excited to take it a step further with 360 video.

To create 360 videos, a special set of cameras is used to record all 360 degrees of a scene simultaneously. This means that when the video is playing on Facebook, you can choose what angle you want to see it from. On the web you can do this by dragging around the video with your cursor, and on mobile devices you do it by dragging with your finger — or even just by turning your device. You’ll be able to hold up your phone and the 360 video will follow you as you turn, looking around, to experience things from all over the world like never before.

The update will be rolling out on Android over the next couple of days.
