Asphalt 8: Airborne Goes Permanently Free – Video of the Day

Asphalt 8: Airborne Goes Permanently Free – Video of the Day

Nov 6, 2013

Think that racing games are getting perhaps a bit too Real? Long for the days of nitro boosts, takedowns, and cars inexplicably rapidly spinning in the air? Asphalt 8: Airborne may just be the game for the person who thinks that braking is something for communists. The problem was that to get into this privilege, one had to pay $0.99 to Gameloft to download the game. The free market has decided that games should be free, and Gameloft has listened to the market and made the game free. And this isn’t a temporary sale, this is a permanent move. Granted, on iOS it could be temporary, but on Google Play, when a developer goes free, they can’t revert back to being paid.

We’ve featured the game as part of the Video of the Day series because for one, it’s a mighty-fine-looking game, and because hey – might as well show off what’s free now. Gameloft claims that they didn’t change the IAP structure in any significant way, just adding limited-time events and per-event boosts. At least one user review on Google Play alleges otherwise, but no one ever accused user reviews of being well-crafted and fair critiques of games, now did they? Judge for yourself by downloading the game now.
