CES Update: New Smartphone Honor 6X is Unveiled

Honor has developed a bit of mindshare in Android land, and with good reason; no one appreciates getting a lot for relatively little like Android users. Devices like the Honor 5X looked to fulfil that premise.

We hear that the Huawei imprint has just unveiled a new smartphone at the ongoing CES 2017.

Dubbed the Honor 6X, the phone is supposed to be a budget unit with worthy specs at a budget price.

Specs? It a 1920 x 1080p full HD display set in a 5.5 inch screen (that is itself part of a 5.9 x 3 x 0.3 inch frame), and weighs 5.71 ounces. Under the hood, it packs a Kirin 655 Octa-Core processor, and the American-bound variant has 32 GB ROM and 3 GB of RAM… plus external storage capability.

Then there is the camera; 12 MP in the rear and 8 MP up front. It has a 3340 mAh battery, and boasts 23 hours of talk time and 600 hours of standby time. It comes with skinned Android 6.0.

Metal body? Check. Fingerprint sensor? Yep.

We should note that yes, it has a headphone jack. Just sayin’.

Price? $249, and folks can begin to partake of this goodness on January 15th, via Best Buy, Newegg, Amazon and Hihonor.com/us.

Livescribe has just let it be known that its popular Livescribe 3 Smartpen will soon be compatible with Android devices.

Leading smartpen manufacturer Livescribe Inc, (www.livescribe.com) today announced that the award-winning Livescribe 3 smartpen will support Android devices this spring. Unveiled at Pepcom’s Digital Experience and previewed during the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show, the Livescribe+ app, currently available only for iOS devices, was designed from the ground up with Android users in mind. The app will be released this spring for select Android devices with KitKat v4.4 and above, and Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) support. The Android version of Livescribe+ will provide full support for the Livescribe 3 smartpen, and will include the key features already in the iOS version of the app.

“Since launch, we’ve been adding new features to Livescribe+ for iOS and also introducing expanded functionality through partnerships with Moleskine, Evernote, Microsoft and Fluid Touch,” said Gilles Bouchard, CEO of Livescribe. “Now we can start to bring those innovations to Android devices this spring and combine the physical world of pen and paper with Android smartphones and tablets.”

The Livescribe+ app will be available for select Android smartphones and tablets running Android KitKat 4.4 or Lollipop 5.0 with support for Bluetooth LE. Livescribe+ will include key features of the iOS version of the app, including the ability to transfer notes from Livescribe 3 smartpens, search handwriting and convert it to digital text. Customers can also create and play back pencasts that synchronize audio recordings with handwritten notes, and easily share their notes in standard PDF format. Any Livescribe 3 smartpen can save notes to both an iOS and Android device so customers have all their notes wherever they need. Additional features will be introduced in later versions of the software.

“Livescribe+ for Android is much more than a port of our iOS app,” said Greg Wong, Director of Product Management. “We’ve approached every aspect of this app, from the color palette to the user interface, to optimize for the Android platform and customer expectations.”

The Livescribe 3 smartpen is the company’s fastest-selling product to date, helping professionals, travelers, students, busy moms and dads, and anyone else who enjoys the feel of writing with real ink on real paper make their notes more useful on a smartphone or tablet.

LG Electronics has just unveiled a follow-up to its curved phablet, the G Flex. The new G Flex 2 just showed face at CES 2015.

The G Flex 2 is reportedly smaller than its predecessor, with a 5.5″ screen size. It has an oco-core chip and a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. It’ll rock Lollipop, and packs in some refinements, like faster healing back panel.

We had an opportunity to look at the original G Flex last year, and were mostly impressed by the somewhat unique design.
