Square Enix has been announcing quite a lot of ports to Android lately, but don’t expect Final Fantasy VII to be one of those anytime soon.
According to an interview with Square Enix producer Takashi Tokita, the issue comes down to the size of the game.
“Unfortunately, it’s not that it’s not impossible for us to develop Final Fantasy 7 for mobile,” Tokita said. “It’s that currently, space will be an issue. Phones won’t be able to contain the space it takes. It’s over a gigabyte. People are probably going to have to wait a few years.”
“It’s definitely going to be years before we do the [mobile] port,” Tokita added.
If you recall, the original Final Fantasy on Playstation 1 was 3 CD-ROM discs. The recent PC port weighs in at 3GBs, so size is an understandable issue.
