Theme Thursday: Paperland Pro Live Wallpaper

Theme Thursday: Paperland Pro Live Wallpaper

Jul 12, 2012

I know that I have been getting sidetracked with all these live wallpapers instead of the normal Theme Thursdays, but I got completely blindsided by Paperland Pro while browsing around the Play Store. I have been more interested in the live wallpapers recently because I had to hard reset my phone the other day, and with the right touches I discovered a newfound love for HTC’s stock launcher. Honestly, I was surprised just how much faster and responsive Sense UI was when compared to any of the other launchers.

But enough about that. Paperland Pro is a great wallpaper by the same company, Joko Interractive, who brought us Photile Pro which I did a spot about a few weeks ago. Paperland is actually really just that. It is a live wallpaper that presents a beautiful and intricate paper world that pans around behind the home screen. The first thing that stood out to me about this app was the amazing clarity and level of detail of the backgrounds. Everything is clearly layered and the subtle drop shadows are a great effect that really makes this a beautiful wallpaper. The animations are expertly executed and bring a surprising breath of life into everything, and I particularly love the flying birds.

As with other Joko Interactive live wallpapers, pretty much everything here is customizable and there is a large list of different themes that come with the Pro version. These are basically color scheme and texture changes, but I was surprised at the amount of variation between different themes. Beyond that, everything that shows up on the screen is customizable, like mountains, lakes, birds, cars, etc, as well as the abundance of all of these parts. By default the whole app pans slowly across the world and reacts subtly to swipes between panels by accelerating accordingly which is just another impressive touch to an already extraordinary app.

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by Paperland Pro. Maybe the paper theme can be a little effeminate but, honestly, it didn’t bother me, and I was able to find a theme and configuration that matched my style perfectly. As for whether or not to upgrade to Pro, I cannot make the call; it all depends on whether the limited theme options are sufficient for each user. Some may find it disappointing whereas others might find their love right away, but as I have said before, it is only a dollar. Paperland: the best way to turn any Android to a living paper diorama.
