Gmail for Android is Getting Two New Features Soon

Gmail for Android is Getting Two New Features Soon

Sep 22, 2015

The Android Gmail app is getting two new features that are slated to help users better control their email inboxes.

Wouldn’t it be nice if your concert ticket appeared at the top of your inbox just before the event started, or your hotel confirmation came back right before you needed to check in?

Starting today, Snooze in Inbox is getting a bit more convenient—when you snooze an email that has dates and times (like event confirmations or shipping notifications), you’ll get a one-tap option to snooze to exactly the right time, like the day of your concert or the morning your package will arrive.

You’ll see these new Snooze options on most of these types of emails:

Package tracking updates
Restaurant and event reservations
Calendar invites
Flight confirmations
Hotel reservations
Rental car reservations

So next time, try snoozing that email to the day before the event. Then sit back and relax, knowing your email will come back at just the right time.

The features are due out soon.

Evernote Gets New Build that Refines Recent Updates

Evernote Gets New Build that Refines Recent Updates

Nov 19, 2014

Evernote has been hard at work.

With this in mind, it’s easy to see why it’s been such an effective note utility for so many people for so long. Recent updates have added long-awaited features like business card support, as well as the new, interesting work chat collaboration tool.

The latest update streamlines these two features: work chat adds in block support, and the business card scanning now works with onboard contact apps.

It should be noted that business card scanning is a premium feature; the app is available for free (with optional in-app purchasing) on the Play Store.

The Android Netflix app is getting an update.

Per the Google Play app page, the new update brings:

• In-app profile management
• Enhanced visual search results
• Backgrounded playback with notification for quick resume (on select devices only)

The profile feature is a relatively new feature that allows a Netflix account holder to create content-specific sub-accounts via the web; this is useful for households with, say, kids to create a portion dedicated to the children. It’ll be a welcome addition to the mobile app.

Netflix mobile content for Android users remains free on the Play Store for folks with active subscriptions.

WordPress for Android Gets Update

For many a blogger, the WordPress app for Android is a very important tool, especially for those that are often on the go; even if just for drafts, having such an app can be a lifesaver. In fact, having the app available is one reason I eventually moved my personal blog from Blogger to self-hosted WordPress.

Users of the app have yet another reason to be happy: the constant improvements, culminating (temporarily, we hope) in the latest update, which is rolling out now.

Version 3.2 brings (per the Google Play page):

* Notifications screen redesigned for better readability
* Post upload notification improvement with new thumbnail and progress bar
* Post list now auto refreshes
* Infinite post swipe in the Reader
* Swipe between photos in the photo viewer
* QuickPress widget fixed
* Pull to refresh widget will tell you if network is not available during airplane mode
* Various bug fixes

WordPress remains free on the Play Store. For users that are interesting in being involved in the app’s beta process, the WordPress Google+ page is the point of contact.

My KODAK Moments App Gets Update That Brings New Video Feature

Sep 19, 2014

The My KODAK Moments App recently received an update that brings an interesting new video generation feature.

Now, users can try out the “Tell My Story” feature. This feature allows users of the app to select any three device-hosted images and to cobble them together with voice-overs. Kodak Alaris promises users a more engaging, personalized sharing experience, and it helps that the resultant product can be shared via social networks, text and email.

The new features are in addition to existing, including printing and ordering via device, and the ability to connect to KODAK kiosks via wi-fi.

The app showcases the continued innovation of the reborn company; Kodak Alaris Chief Ralf Gerbershagen talks about what drives the Kodak Alaris. “In a world where we capture more images and share more images than ever before, we’re passionate about helping people capture, keep, share, relive and celebrate their precious moments as easily as possible,” he says. “We’re driven by a simple belief – to help consumers find a better way. It drives us to keep innovating and push the boundaries between the physical (retail space) and digital (mobile/PC) environments.”
