High Noon 2 Review

High Noon 2 Review

High Noon 2 is a shoot-out arcade-type game that presents the wild’west in deliberate first-person perspective.

In this game, I believe the tutorial is absolutely necessary, so kudos to the developer for the practice shooting portion. I liked the practice in that it assists with learning the shooting and reloading mechanism without necessarily ruining the surprise if the gameplay. Shooting is simple; all it takes is tapping the screen, but linking up the sights is what is really crucial. Tilting the device controls the aiming piece, and it takes a little bit to get used to doing it in a quick manner.

One thing the game doesn’t do is be overly easy. There isn’t just an endless supply of bullets, and the practice hn2area underscores this. Swinging the device downwards allows for the virtual weapon to be reloaded manually via taps, which, in the midst of a gunfight, understandably has to be performed very quickly. The practice portion can be repeated infinitely.

Going on, the game engine walks players through the basics. The first gunfight was an eye-opener, and completed the picture; the opposing gunfighter was picked at random. The interesting thing is that the opponent moves around, shoots back and has a life percentage. As in all standoffs of this nature, it’s a war of attrition, and whoever has depleted the others life first wins. Winning yields experience points and a rewards, which can be used for improvements from the in-app shop. There is also a list of missions that serve as another goal for players. Multiplayer is possible too, and optional in-app purchases with real cash are available.

Fun as the game is, I beg forgiveness for being a prude; I didn’t like some of the language in the menus. Also, the visuals work, but could use just a little bit more pop with smoother animations.

Still, it’s a decent free-to-play game when consumed in short bursts.

The Chicken Bandit Review

The Chicken Bandit Review

Oct 15, 2012

The Chicken Bandit takes the old Western theme and puts it into a game where the main character writes a chicken to rob trains. If that doesn’t sound fun, I don’t know what does. The Chicken Bandit starts out with a little bit of tutorial. The controls use a combination of tilting Android device in the direction the bandit needs to run and dragging and tapping on the screen.

himAs the bandit is running alongside the train, there are open windows and doors with valuable items being shown. Sometimes these windows also have a shooting robot cowboys in them. Other windows and doors are closed. There may still be valuable items behind them, seeing a closed window just means the bad it needs to shoot it open or use dynamite.

When trying to nab some of the valuable items, the bandit uses a combination of a gun and a lasso. The gun is the first weapon available to the bandit is used to shoot the robot cowboys and also to blast open windows and doors. The lasso is used to snag items. As the bandits running by, drag a finger from the bandit to the item and he will throw a lasso around the item. To reel them back in, tap the item a few times and the bandit will reel the item back in.

The game’s progression will bring other weapons to help The Chicken Bandit. Dynamite is later used to help blow open larger doors. Using the money stolen, upgrades are able to be purchased.

Like any good game, at the end of the stage is a “Big Boss” to fight. By the time the end of this stage is reached, there should be a few add-ons and other skills available to help knock the boss down a peg or two. One other cool thing expected in every old West game, is a shootout. The Chicken Bandit also has Quick Draw duels.

I for one am waiting for this hockey lockout to be done with. I have my fantasy hockey team all ready to go and what happens? That’s right, not one hockey game in sight. To help all of us get over the hockey withdrawal, here are a few hockey games for Android. While it’s not the same as watching real-life people skate, at this point I’ll take any hockey I can get.

Hockey Nations: Shoot-out

Hockey Nations: Shoot-out is nothing but one of the most exciting parts of the game, the shoot out. After all of the regulation time is finished and the game is a draw, let the best shooters and goaltenders have at it.

Hockey Fight Lite

Some sports have somewhat rare occurrences. NASCAR has crashes, Basketball has shattered backboards and hockey has fights. Hockey Fight Lite is a game with nothing but hockey fights. Almost every team has a brawler. A guy who’s sole job is to be overly aggressive and rack up the penalty minutes. This boxing on ice game is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

Ice Hockey – One Timer (Free)

Shooting the puck is much harder than it looks. Using a curved stick hitting the small goal with a hard piece of rubber at the speeds and accuracy these guys do is amazing. The”One Timer” is all about timing and lots and lots of practice. Ice Hockey – One Timer is nothing but a game filled with attempts at shooting a moving puck. Different ratings for how good the timing accuracy of the shot is. I’d probably keep the volume down though the music isn’t that great.

Hockey MVP

Hockey MVP gives the option to control the shooter or the goalie. It’s a full-fledged hockey game with the choice of 8 national teams (FIN, SWE, RUS, CAN, USA, GER, CZE, NOR) available for play. The controls are mostly tilting the phone in the direction of the shots or to move the player. Tapping the screen will shoot or save. Hockey MVP is going to be the most realistic full game on the list.

Big Win Hockey

Big Win Hockey adds a cartoon character look to the full hockey game. This is not just a shootout or fighting game, it’s just like the real thing with cartoon characters. Create teams and modify players to make the ultimate hockey team. Make the an unstoppable team by upgrading players. The announcer is pretty decent and overhead view makes it easy to see all of the action.
