Upcoming Modern Combat 5: Blackout Will Feature SSAO Graphic Effects

SSAO, or Screen Space Ambient Occlusion, is a neat effect that gives the in-game shadows a realistic, blurry look. It seems that the developers are going all-in with the graphical effects in Modern Combat 5: Blackout, so make sure you have a modern device if you want to get a taste of what the game will have to offer. Other features include soft particles, underwater distort and caustics, real-time character shadows and many more. Paul Cuisset, creator of Flashback, who’s also worked on such games as Moto Racer and Darkstone, is working ona a new game with Microids: Subject 13. This game has players controlling Franklin Fargo, who must escape from an underground scientific facility by interacting with objects to help make his escape and figure out why he’s been imprisoned. The game is currently in development; no release date has been announced. Check out some art of the game below:

Modern Combat 5: Blackout from Gameloft has Additional Details Revealed on Multiplayer

More details are available for the upcoming Modern Combat 5, with multiplayer details now available. The online multiplayer will support up to 12 players simultaneously, in capture the flag, VIP, free for all, and team battle modes. Players can form persistent squads in Squad vs. Squad modes, forming dedicated teams to take on other squads. There will be Limited-Time Events that let players win prizes, along with leaderboards for squads and individual players, with the unified single and multiplayer progression as well. Controller support is planned but may not be in at launch, and the game may support Twitch streaming as well. We’ll have more details as they come in. Until then, check the new screens below.

Orangepixel is getting in on two hot trends: quick free games and the World Cup, with the upcoming TapKick World Cup 2014. This quick-play action game will have players bouncing a soccer ball off of their heads, trying to keep it from hitting the ground, getting more points the lower to the ground they hit it. The game will be ad-supported, and may release under a different name as “World Cup” may cause trademark issues. Check out video below, and expect this in a week or so.

Unpossible has been confirmed for Android. Launched in the past weeks on iOS, this arcade-survival game puts players in a first-person view, spinning along a path, avoiding the various hazards that pop up. Multiple difficulties (one for casual players, two for those wanting a challenge), and daily modes for each help round out the experience. DeNA have announced the upcoming release of Transformers: Age of Extinction – The Official Mobile Game this summer, tied in to the latest in the Transformers movie series. While Transformers: Legends was a card game, this game will be an endless runner, albeit ones with robots and robot dinosaurs. Aww yeah. Noodlecake Games and Spokko have announced a spin-off of Zombie Road Trip, entitled Zombie Road Trip: Trials. There’s more of the physics-based racing that the original was known for, but now with a mission-based structure that throws 480 missions players’ way. As well, there’s a cross-platform multiplayer mode so that the road tripping can never end, much like the zombie hordes. The game is launching very soon: check out the trailer below.
