NFL Runner: Football Dash Review

NFL Runner: Football Dash Review

Oct 7, 2013

Infinite runners really do have a tough job of standing out from the crowd in this day and age. There’s just so many of them that it’s hard to recommend one over the other. NFL Runner: Football Dash is a solid infinite runner that only stands out thanks to the official NFL branding plastered all over it.

You know how it goes. NFL Runner: Football Dash sees players controlling as a running back in training. Players swipe at the screen to get the runner to move left and right, slide under obstacles and jump over hurdles. The goal is to run for as long as possible, trying to beat not just one’s own high-score as well as everyone else’s.NFLRun3

Obstacles in the way include literal hurdles, stacks of tires, and other NFL players looking to tackle the guy with the ball. As the run continues, new locations are reached. Before you know it you’re in a parking lot and trying to avoid cars. It doesn’t change how the game plays, but having a change in location is a welcome addition.

As well as trying to improve your own standing within the game, all 32 NFL teams are on a leaderboard that’s dictated by how well their fans are doing within the game. As I like the color purple, I decided to pick the Ravens and through my efforts they now sit at 12th in the league.

To help improve the personal best score or the team’s score it’s possible to collect coins. These coins can be used to improve the strength of any power-ups you run into or they can be used to boost your team’s league position. Why you’d want to do that, I’m not too sure. Then again, I’m not a real</ Ravens fan, so that’s probably got a lot to do with my apathy to them doing well in a game.

The power-ups I just mentioned come in a couple of flavors, though nothing mind-blowing. One will cause coins to come to you, others make you run faster or jump higher whilst one very specials power-up causes you to grow to 3 times your size and simply run through all obstacles. It removes all skill when you can just run in a straight line and destroy all in your path, but it’s good fun.

Good fun is really all there is to say about NFL Runner: Football Dash. It’s an infinite runner that has a good amount of NFL polish applied. Official team logos are emblazoned alongside official NFL sponsor’s logos. Bright and colorful graphics give the game a cartoon-like quality that works well given the over the top way in which your character runs. Nothing ground-breaking but a really solid app that’s bound to please NFL fans and infinite runner fans alike.

Graphics & Sound - Everything is covered in an NFL shine and commentary gets repetitive pretty quick.

Controls - Swiping on the screen works well enough.
6.0
Replay Value - You'll quickly see all that the game has to offer. How much you replay will be down to how much you want that highscore.
7.0
Overall - A solid game that plays it safe and relies on its branding. Should please NFL fans and fans of the genre though.
