Pirate Blitz, a Son’s Tale of Nautical Revenge: Video of the Day

Nov 8, 2013

This has been a banner year for games featuring nautical vengeance. First there was Ridiculous Fishing over on iOS, and now there’s Pirate Blitz from 12 Gauge Studios. Based loosely on the story of developer JJ Williams’ father owning a boat that was attacked by pirates a few years ago (the full story on The Portable Podcast this Tuesday), this is a dual-stick shooter where pirates must be destroyed! Get in a boat, shoot in all directions! Enemy pirates are coming in from all directions! Cannons on islands are set up! Take them out, ask questions later! Pirates are trying to board! Shoot them!

Boat get blown up? Take the rewards, get another boat, upgrade it with the coins you’ve earned, and wreak more havoc on the high seas! This Chicago product (featuring art and music from the Chicago indie dev community) has plenty of chaotic action, and JJ Williams of 12 Gauge Studios sat down with me to talk about the game while I played it. Check out the video below and download Pirate Blitz from Google Play.
