Samsung has been running ads recently promoting the Galaxy S3 and Note 2 featuring a fictional game developer making a potential hit game called Unicorn Apocalypse. Along the way they have foibles and follies involving Samsung phones and the guy who played Josh on 30 Rock. Well, life imitates art, as Samsung has published an actual Unicorn Apocalypse game. Through a contest with Gamespot and GameSalad, Liquid Gameworks has won $25,000 for their take on the end of all days with unicorns.
And in a situation that proves that Samsung is either wholly unaware of their reputation or are unparalleled masters of self-parody, the game they chose as the winning submission is basically a Robot Unicorn Attack clone. Adult Swim Games, the publisher of RUA, not only has tweeted mockingly about the game without mentioning it by name, but they also aired a bump (unavailable on Bumpworthy, which catalogs these) mocking Samsung for it. That’s a bold move if only because Samsung advertises on Adult Swim quite regularly.
Still, it’s really quite hilarious considering Samsung’s recent history. Unicorn Apocalypse is available for free from Google Play. Don’t count on an iOS version.
